EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREETS - DAY

DAVE, a young male in his mid-twenties, steps out onto the front steps of an apartment building in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.  He exhales cigarette smoke into the air in front of him, then takes a long drag of his cigarette.


He looks to his right where he catches the eye of a TEENAGE GIRL (16) walking towards him.  She is talking on the phone, but steals glances at him out the corner of her eye.


Dave looks down at his feet until the girl moves past him, at which point he watches her walk further down the street to his left.  As Dave watches the girl he sees something out the corner of his eye that is even further to his left.  He looks directly at a MIDDLE AGED MAN (45) walking intently towards him.

DAVE

(under his breath)

SHIT!

Dave throws his cigarette in the direction of the man, races down the steps of the apartment building and across the street in front of him.

A yellow cab blasts it's horn as Dave runs out into the middle of the road.  Dave takes a quick look behind him to see the middle aged man running after him.  Dave makes it to the opposite sidewalk and races to the end of the street where he takes a left onto a cross-street.  A LARGE CROWD of people are walking towards and away from Dave.  

Dave rushes into the crowd, rips off his zipped up black jacket to reveal a blue t-shirt, and pulls a beanie out his back pocket which he places on his head.  He dumps the jacket in a pile of trash next to the road before dashing into the doorway of an apartment building.

Across the road Dave spots a YOUNG BOY (13) balance his skateboard in the doorway next to a grocery shop, which has a large 'No Skateboards' sign in the front window.  The young boy enters the grocery store leaving his skateboard unsupervised.  

Dave takes his chances and dashes out across the road in time with a stop in the traffic.  He races over to the skateboard, which he grabs before flying off down a nearby cross-street, doing a jump off the sidewalk on the skateboard as he goes.

As he skates away Dave turns back to see the middle aged man standing on the edge of the opposite sidewalk staring at him.  The middle aged man holds one of his hands up to his head and signals a gun shooting him in the head.

All of a sudden Dave goes flying into the air as the skateboard hits a large tree branch in the middle of the road.  Dave smacks into a car parked on the side of the road and collapses onto the tarmac, unconscious.

The young boy appears in the street and races up to his skateboard lying overturned in the middle of the road.  He picks up his skateboard and turns to Dave laughing.  He continues to laugh as he skates off down the road.

Dave lies in the street for a few seconds before he starts to come to.  When he finally opens his eyes he looks up to see the fist of the middle aged man heading for his face.
